That's why I still play the old Sierra/Papyrus IndyCar Racing II game.

Fully customizeable carsets with an in-game paintshop.

Plus gaming experts have created new add-on tracks and converted all of the tracks from Papy's NASCAR Racing 3 game so it is possible to race a complete IRL IndyCar Series season.

    There's even a forum for ICR2.

I haven't seen one yet for the Codemasters game; and with nothing to customize on it I don't see anything happening soon.

True, but until Codemasters nobody came even close to matching ICR2's physics and artificial intelligence models.

Mind you hardly anyone tried. Microsoft's CART Precision Racing was far from precision. There were others but they've all faded into history while ICR2 still lives on. Its 'customizeability' has kept it alive. Modern day carsets feature highly realistic carshapes from both CART and IRL, and the ability to use NASCAR-3's newer tracks has also added to the fun.

Heck, I've already turned laps on the new high-banked Homestead. It is going to be a unique challenge to the IRL drivers because it is a true oval. (ie. no tri or quad-oval frontstretch) The exit of T4 and the entrance of T1 are just as tight as their counterparts on the backstretch which is something new to an IRL high-banks race.

I've been doing updated paint schemes for ICS in ICR2/CART Racing. Even though the game dates back to the mid-90s it is still the best Indycar game you can find. There is a patch for EA's F1 2002 for the IRL, but it doesn't have all of the tracks and the cars are from 2002.

The fine folks in the ICR2 community have really done a great job of keeping things fairly up to date.

Check out this forum for more:

Scroll down to the ICR2 forum.

I will warn any "sensetive" IRL fans that majority of members are CART fans and some don't like TG or the IRL. However for the most part the split kind of gets put on the back burner and people are really very reasonable about the different opinions. To put it another way, I haven't been flamed or anything like that.

In addition to collecting Race Tapes, my other obsession (besides my wife ) is ICR2. Mainly converting it to an IRL sim, I have a Sim-Racing page devoted to it (with Powercats' wonderufl new 2004 IRL Carset):

    Ron's IRL Sim-Racing Page

A new 30 gallon fuel tank util will be up soon too.

thanks to dironstarr i've converted my ICR2 to IRL and have played it many a times, I have a difficult time with setups and it hurts my game, I honestly prefer playing ICS Series because of the updated graphics & technology...

I really am doubting a Codemasters sequel, I hope there is one but the page on Electronic Boutique doesn't tell much. Coming from working at a movie theater as a teen and knowing you just put posters up regardless if the theater get's the movie tells me this could be a dated press release or something. No way the game will be finished before Indy and we haven't heard a peep.

Any chance of reprogramming the Network Code so that 33 people can race online?

Any chance of tweaking the ICS game code so it can be classified as an actual "game"?

    Oooooooohhhh, zing.
