His story is an example of the sacrifice made by tens of thousands of soldiers and families across the nation. People who put aside their own comfort, security and safety to stand up for ... me.

I never had to answer my country's call, I never served in the military, and at my age I most likely will never have to. I don't feel worthy of the remarkable gift provided us by our military. Yet I thank God for them, and hope they will finish their job quickly and get back as soon as possible.

God bless our troops, and God bless Pat Tillman - who gives new meaning to the term "MVP".

As an alum of the University of Illinois I was and am still angered and saddend by Simeon Rice's comments when Tillman left the NFL.

All over the news this a.m. Unbelievable...guy walks away from a $3M (+) contract with the AZ Cards to enlist in the Rangers along with his brother.

A True American Hero - who will now be installed in the Pantheon of Americans who have died for our freedom. This one even gave up a life of celebrity and more money than most of us will ever see

What a sad and moving story. 9/11 changed his life, and he left a great paying sport like the NFL to join the Army.

I was so sad to see this. There is no doubt that Tillman was a hero and an inspiration to all who knew his story.

Bless you, Pat Tillman, for being an inspiration to us all. We will not forget you.

Bless you, each and every one of you, who separate yourselves from your jobs, whether you make $3 million a year or $3,000. Bless all of you who leave behind your families and friends no matter how much they cry and beg you to stay home in safety. Bless all of you who give up your free lives in the civilian world in order to do do the most horrible work anyone can be asked to do in order that others may live in peace. All of you who are lost are heroes. And, even though we will never know all of your names as we know Pat Tillman's, you will be remembered and missed as much as anybody else.

I was saddened to hear about Pat Tillman. This is one man that I would talk about to everyone. His accomplishments are endless and his bravery is unsurpassed. He would set the example for all to follow. He was an all around true hero as with all the other men and women currently serving in our armed forces. I hope the State of Arizona will name a monument or peak in memory of our fallen hero.

The thing which impressed me the most was that it would have been easy for Tillman to turn this into a huge publicity generating event. But he didn't. He turned down every interview. He talked to no reporters. I remember when he joined up, every sports-talk guy was trying to line up an interview but he refused them all. I have also heard that the Army wanted to use him in a publicity/recruiting video, but he turned that down as well.

This was in no way a decision to feed an ego. This was a man who was solid in what he believed his duty was to be.

It has been many years since I have had a hero as I age the requirments get tough. In February of 2004 I got my first hero and yesterday my second. Hero's have come and gone in my life but these two will remain with me for the rest of my life. Mr. Tillman made that list as I read the amazing story's of his lack of self. I bet this guy never uttered the words me or I, he was no doubt a we and us kind of person. May he rest in peace and may his family know that he has become a hero to many of us and that he will live forever in our minds and harts.
I just traded places with my son, he has always called me his hero and now he is mine. At 19 he has just graduated from Navy basic training, I know your all saying the Navy is pretty safe, and I say thank God its safer than most right now. It looks like when he is done with school if this war is still going he won't be so safe. He to is an athlete and a **** good one, if nothing else he would have got a free ride to a 4 year university for his baseball skill. My son came very late in my life, most of the kids his age have grandfathers my age. His reasons for joining were long and selfless every reason was for other's not himself.
Today instead of none I have two hero's they are the ones I guess I have always looked for because they will be my hero's for the rest of my time on this earth.

Pat Tillman gave up an $ 8 Million contract with the St Louis Rams when he became a free agent, He said that the Arizona Cardinals gave him the opportunity to play in the NFL and that he would remain a Cardinal for $5 million less, He was truly a rare breed, They don't come along very often.

Since our (Mrs.111 and myself's) son has returned from Iraq and we have experienced the highs of hearing his voice on the phone,the extreme joy of hugging him, and the lows of a fatal attack on unknown members of his squadron in his AOR we are much more appreciative of and sensitive to the struggles of others who have loved ones overseas. Whether a cook at an improvised base or a Spec.Ops doing dangerous covert operations they are all someones son/daughter, husband/wife, brother/sister, cousin, aunt/uncle etc.

One thing to remember about Tillman is that he shunned special treatment and privileges and desired to be "just another soldier". I am sure that he would not consider himself any more of a hero than any other person who has lost his/her life in this struggle against terrorism. JMHO.
