    Oddity

Who drove the only Brabbam chassis at Indy?

Didn't Black Jack and Revson also give one a spin?

Mario and Jim McElreath drove brabham's in 65. Somehow I must be misinterpreting the question.

Yes, Jack and Revson definitely in '69, with the Repco engines. Didn't know about '65.

I thought the '65 Brawner Hawk was a copy of the Brabham?

Also, did not Jack Brabham himself run a Brabham chassis in 1964?

    Jim....you got it!!!!

It was kind of a ........ trick question. Did you notice that the chassis was a "Brabbam", not a "Brabham"?

Clint Brawner and his group, which included, Andretti, Moore, and McGee, copied the Brabham that Black Jack drove in the 1964 race. They named it a "Brabbam", after the initials of the builders (b-Brawner, a-Andretti, m-Moore and McGee ) and gave props to the original desinger!

    How 'bout that one?!!

BTW, McElreath's car was the 1964 "Brabham", that was copied.

Hey....before you all start throwing bricks at me, I've got to be a little devious to stump anybody on this forum!!!!!!

Curiously while Clymer calls the chassis a "Brabbam," both Fox and Popely call it a "Brawner" and Mike O'Leary's Mario book calls it a "Brawner/Hawk." I always thought it was just the first generation "Hawk."

It is just too good a story not to be a Brabbam!!

Also John Martin and Johnny Rutherford in 1972.

Also Jim MacElreath had the "Brabham by Moore" in '66 & '67.

If this is a trick question, you certainly got my on this.

the Repco, an Aussie Buick I believe was in 68, the 69's had Turbo Offy's.
The only year an Offy was used was 1970 by Black Jack himself.
Before that all team Brahbams were Repco powered including the one use to win at IRP by Peter Revson, in 1969.
That was the only major road racing victory by the DOHC version of the Repco.
It was developed from the GM BOP engine, although the four cam version was ninety percent Repco.

It did become popular for use in hill clilmbs in the UK until replaced by discarded 3.5 liter Formula one engines after they were abandoned by a rules change.

In 1969 Sonny Ates drove a Brahbam for 3-K racing as a teammate to Mel Kenyon. Sonny actually outqualified Mel but dropped out late in the race. I don't see anywhere that the car was a "copy."
