    Way to go Joe!!!!

It is good to see him back in victory lane. In an Army sponsored car no less.

...sorry dude for my post, looks like we were posting the same thing right about the same time!

Congrats to Joe, MB2 and the U.S Army! A shame though that Joe's mother was unable to be there.
My first Indy 500 was 1973, haven't missed one since 1981. To date I have attended 35 Indy 500's, and probably 100 or so other IndyCar races (CART & IRL).

It is frustrating in that you had two drivers battling for the lead, and you are rooting for both. Great win Joe!

...being that I'm NOT a Ricky Rudd fan I was most definitely pulling for Joe.

This is what NASCAR should be.

Real athletes (Nemechek, Rudd) in a real competition (racing to win).

It's too bad that guys like these take a back seat to the almost scripted characters who comprise most of the C4C whatchimacallit.

    No cussword boondoggles.
No 'He sucks', 'That guy's an a-hole', 'That idiot screwed up my life'.
No petty bitchfights between drivers and pitcrews.
    No personality clashes.
No differentiating between athletes and corporate pitchmen in athletes clothing.
    No points racing/big picture/C4C BS.

Just two darn good drivers racing for TODAY!!!!

If NASCAR was like that every race I would be more, much more, inclined to watch it.

Congrats to Joe and Ricky; you guys put the 'g' back in 'racing'!
    - Make a note of the word 'Gobbly-gook'. I like it and I want to use it more often in conversation.

Actually didn't Ricky Rudd get into some sort of fight a couple of years ago? Or threw a water bottle or something at someone. I can't quite remember.

No. that was Rusty Wallace that threw the water bottle at Dale Earnhardt Sr a couple of years ago.

Yeah that sounds right. It still seems like there was some incident with Rudd. Ah who knows? Maybe I was drinking at the time.

Rudd and Earnhardt swapped allot of paint back at the old Richmond half mile back in the 80s, spun each other out, which allowed someone else to win the race, Geoffry Bodine, If I remember correctly. Than may be the incident you're thinking about.

...Rudd and Harvick clashed last season after Rudd punted Harvick.

Harvick then hit Rudd on pit-road after the race and then jumped on the roof of Rudd's car when Rudd refused to get out....but of course Rudd's car was surrounded by Harvick's crew. Rudd had the nerve to say that Harvick damaged his race car...after of course Rudd had damaged Harvick's car.

I'm not a Ricky Crudd fan and won't miss him once he's finally gone.

That's what I mean by personality clash.

Rudd probably thinks Harvick is a smartass and Harvick probably thinks Rudd is an old geezer.

But I believe the veteran drivers have developed (they may not always have had it) a mutual respect for one another.

Only time will tell if the young whippersnappers will 'mature' in the same way, but right now I appreciate the classy demeanor of the veterans over the seemingly scripted reality-TV antics of the younger crop.

    JMHO.

I don't believe that was Ricky Rudd, Teh incident you describe sounds more like the one that was between Harvick and Greg Biffle.

FWIW, I do remember Rudd's crew getting in a dustup with another crew and Rudd seemed to be caught in the middle of it.

IIRC, Rudd was sucker punched by the engine builder of his own team while with Yates. Rudd stepped back, collected his thoughts, and unloaded a plastic water bottle at the culprit.

I believe that is the one I was thinking of. Although I do think that there was some sort of deal with Rudd and Harvick. There was also a deal with Harvick and Biffle at a Busch series race. Harvick got right in his face but didn't do anything IIRC.

Yea, that happened during the rather bitter divorce between Yates and Rudd in 2002.

Lee, if this old brain remembers it correctly, the incident you spoke of between Rudd and Earnhardt happened not at Richmond but at North Wilkesboro. At Richmond a last lap tangle between Darrell Waltrip and Geoff Bodine allowed Kyle Petty to win his first Cup race. I believe that was in 1985 or so.

Yeah, you're correct on that. I know what you mean about the "old Brain" Seems mine's getting "older". Thanks.
