    2005 Honda Odyssey

Does anyone have any thoughts / opinions on how well this new Honda Engine "VCM" will work / last?

    Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM™)

Powered by the intelligence of i-VTEC® technology, VCM™ quickly and seamlessly activates or deactivates the three rear cylinders, depending on the driver's needs. So you get the best of both worlds: V-6 power when accelerating or climbing, as well as the efficiency of a smaller engine while cruising.

I had a Caddy with the V8-6-4. It worked very well except it was ahead of it's time. There was a lawsuit against GM for this engine catching on fire but as far as I can tell the suit was bogus. I imagine Hondas version works very well.

Do you think the Honda version is reliable? Could I expect 100k - 175k miles out of this engine?

Don't the Indycar engines work this way during a yellow to save fuel?

My guess is if it’s race tested it’s pretty reliable.

The Hemi in the new 300C does this as well, seemlessly switching from 4 to 8 cylinders. Road tests indicate that the transition is completely undetectable. Good tech.

I don't see why it wouldn't last that long Nut providing you maintain it properly. Actually when the cylinders aren't firing I would think there would be less wear and tear on them.

Cammy needs to come interject his thoughts on this................

It's a Honda-just getting broke in at those numbers. I'm sure they would not come to market with this concept if it was not adequetely tested.
