Does the Red Hat Brigade always sit at pit out?

No, this isnt an attendance thread, just something Ive kind of noticed. It was this way at Nashville too (well, they were at the end of the main grandstand)...Marlboro (or Firestone) seems to buy tickets near the end of the grandstand, is there any sort of rhyme or reason behind this?

No. There's this one from the thread on the IC forum:

And this one from the Denver and Kentucky Attendance thread:

Some red hats here and there though not as many as in the photo at the start of this thread.

I got a red hat at St. Pete..........but it didn't come with a ticket...........you get the hat inside the gate..........then I guess you set wherever you bought your seat..........

That yellow and blue stripping design in the stands is very pretty. It really stands out in those pictures.

My guess is they're wishing you couldn't see so much of the yellow and blue.

You must be too since you've mentioned "yellow and blue" 3x already!

Yellow, blue, and red....we've got the primary colors down pat. Now let's work on the rest of the rainbow.

I have a red hat, signed up at Texas. Never got a free ticket from Marlboro but I did get a birthday card.

and even a few with the #8 on it as well. on a side note, there was a family of 3 sitting right in front of me wearing NASCAR apparel. The son was beside himself all race long, and at the end couldn't contain his enthusiasm any longer and went down the aisle to watch the last 5 laps in the first row. I asked the Dad if they had ever been to a race, he replied "NASCAR, but this racing is incredible". It was fairly obvious the son enjoyed himself, and he had a red hat on...... a Budweiser Racing hat with the #8 on it.

They want to send them out to those they still can.

I was going to say the same though, I have a "free" red hat (don't smoke-lied) as do three of my friends who went to the Michigan race with me. While it puts hats in the stands, they do NOT come with free seats. Couldn't sign up for the hat until you were inside the track already via the ticket you bought.

Perhaps one of the sponsors needs to get with the program and start passing out free purple t-shirts to wear with those red hats....
I'm from a place called the internet. Nothing disturbs me.

It's true at most tracks all you have to do is go to the Marlboro tent tell em you're a smoker to get a free red hat. Kentucky seems to be another kind of animal though. Five minutes before the race started there were people lined up all the way around the tent and somehow I don't think they were missing the start of the race for a free hat. Maybe it is because KY is tobacco country but Marlboro does seem to give away an extrodinary amount of tickets there.

You live in Alaska, why would they send you free tickets to Texas?

I know four people who live in the Bay Area who have called me tellin me they have some free passes things they got from Marlboro for Sonoma and since they have no idea what it is they are for, they called me to see if i wanted them since they know im a race fan. Thats 4 free tickets I have. For sunday.

The passes just tell you to call before hand and come pick up your free tickets on sunday. Plus the "first" 1500 get free pit passes as well.

To deny that thousands upon thousands of free tickets are given out for IRL events is dishonest.

I have never seen a free ticket for a Champcar event. Beleive me I have looked, those races are expensive.

LOL, I figured this thing would get sidetracked.

I got 2 free tickets, a free hat, lanyard, earplugs, ashtray, and pitpasses when I redeemed my passes....my friend would have had to stand in line and sign up if he wanted a hat.

The whole reason I asked is because pitout is generally a primo spot (at least I think it is, next to start/finish.) I figured that tickets bought in bulk like Marlboros/Firestones would be relegated to some other less desirable spot.

Bruces response actually made me think for a second

Feel free to resume your regularly-scheduled peeing match

Our secretary, who smokes Marlboros, gets two free tickets in the mail to the Richmond race (two hours away) every year. They show up without her asking for them.

That's because it takes sponsors to provide free tickets.

I received free tickets for 3 years in a row from Marlboro for the Michigan 500....back when Cart ran there.

I never thought that it was a bad thing either, I was going either way, they just provided better seats that I would have purchased on my own.

No free tickets for any IndyCar races as of yet though.

at the begining of this season I came to this board and asked how to get the free Marlboro tickets, I signed up at their web site....I registered at their booth at St. Pete........(got a free red hat). So far I have received coupons for smokes (I don't smoke) NO tickets or offers for tickets........I've got to believe that the folks receiving these are heavy into Marlboro's "perks" program where you send in bar codes for free Marlboro gear..........these free tickets aren't as easy to come by as some claim.......

numrounofan, where do you live? If you're not within a certain geographic area surrounding an IRL track, you won't get tickets.

I signed up at TMS couple years back...for the hat...and got tickets for 2 years after, but didn't this year.

    BTW ptistheboss,
Unless the ticket program has changed from last year, the actual person the ticket was sent to has to pick up the ticket at the track. The ticket vouchers are marked with the person they were sent to and you must show a matching id to claim the tickets.
    new sig pending

Thanx Jake! that sounds a lot more plausable than "free tickets for the asking". I live in INDY which I know I'll never get a free ticket too......but I gave Marlboro my Florida address in Pinellas Co. (St. Pete).....maybe in 2 years I won't have to open the gates at 6:30 am to get in free........

Maybe next year I can wander down to St Pete and work F&C for the race so I can open the gates at 6:30 and get in 'free'...
