    Argent Mortgage Indy "Grand Prix"

I've seen Grand Prix racing and that was no Grand Prix. No Ferrari, Renault, Williams, McLaren, Toyota, Bar, Sauber, Red Bulls, Jordans or Minardi were seen anywhere. Sure, a few of the drivers had hard to pronounce names, but still? Grand Prixs are watched on Speedvision in underwear at 7:00 am after the alarm goes off at 6:59, not mid day. I am shocked that the Indycar Series would resort to such treachary in falsely luring fans to a Grand Prix. This could really hurt next years USGP attendance or perhaps the debacle of the real US Grand Prix had the Scorched Earth effect since it appeared that the crowd wasn't too impressive.

Grand Prix ( P ) Pronunciation Key (grä pr)
    n. pl. Grand Prix (prz, pr)
Any of several competitive international road races for sports cars of specific engine size over an exacting, usually risky course.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[French, short for Grand Prix de Paris, originally an international horserace established in 1863 at Longchamp in Paris.]
    It's all a scam

Maybe 3/4ths of the field should have pulled into the garages before the green and made it a "real" Grand Prix?

Are you aware that Grand Prix means great race in French? Its the traditional word for a top level motor race.

You are correct, BADGER, IRL should not associate themselves with the term "Grand Prix" (great prize) any more than cart/owrs/cc should associate themselves with the term "INDY" in the name of any of their races..... Why do all of these people attempt to identify themselves as something that they are not?????????

I believe the actual translation is Grand Prize not great race.
Some people will do nearly anything in order to be able to not do anything.

After rereading your post, I see that you said it is the 'traditional' word for a top level motor race. So I probably shouldn't have corrected you.

I thought Red Bulls finished 3rd and 4th?

Probably would have been a better race.

I saw a tennis match called a "grand prix." Where does that categorize?

The women are fun to watch, but they sure don't hit the ball very hard.

    And...

    IRL:

April 3: Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg

August 28: Argent Mortgage Indy Grand Prix

September 25: Watkins Glen Indy Grand Prix presented by Argent Mortgage

    Grand Am:

March 5: Grand Prix of Miami

    ALMS:

    etc., etc.

Grand Prix has been used for years for car races, motorcycle races, horse races, tennis matches, you name it. I even saw a dog show on the TV listings once that had Grand Prix in the title.
