    Hurricane stuff I don't understand

This could be a long list if it was a complete one but I'll edit it down to just a few:

I saw a family in a shelter that says there were 500 people who chartered buses to get them out of NO. The buses were commandeered by the National Guard. When these people started walking across the bridge the National Guard shot at them and ordered them to return. I can't fathom a good reason for this.

Why are people forced to sleep on the floor of the SuperDome? Why not let them sit in the seats? I realize it wouldn't be real comfortable but it would at least keep them out of the sewage on the floor.

Before less than half of the 25,000 people going to the Astrodome arrive the Fire Marshall claims its at capacity. It had been announced for a couple of days how many were coming. Why were people allowed to board buses when this guy should have known the dome was full?

However it needs to be done get these people the **** out of there and bulldoze the town.

There just appears to me that a massive void exists where Ground Zero leadership should be.

More and more questions. Fewer and fewer answers.

    Just a horrific situation.

Here the way I understand it:

AT the point of the bus action they did not any non goverment sanctioned vechiels on the few roads out of town.. Those Buses were no APPROVED. and they were told to redirect to the superdome.

They also did not want people walking out of NO blocking the roads

The have since let the refugees walk out of town since they can not provide for them.

People were alowed in the seats at the Superdome Where as they are not being alowed in the seats at the Astrodome. But there were 25 thousand or more at the Superdome with no electric no lights no water pressure no AC.

75 Buses with no radios were on the way AFTER he closed the Dome and it caught the Houston FEMA and Red Cross off guard. They then had to moves on to San Antonio or Dallas.

But they are now sayijng that there is not enough help. Everyone including the infrimed are houses on the botton floor.. Restrooms are on Floor 2 and thje food is on floor 4 and they can not get the sick and injuried to those floors.

THIS IS THE BIGGEST CLUSTER FLOCK IN THE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY AND HEADS NEED TO ROLL FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM

and yes they need to Doze the entire city right into the gulf./

This is much more difficult than 9-11 was to deal with or even other Hurricanes of the recent past.

Like when we got hit by three last year we still had Tampa and Orlando that were basically untouched and aid was organized from there.

In Katrina the major cities in the area were hit and destroyed. It sounds like the relief for New Orleans is being organized from Baton Rouge. Roads are down so access is limited.

Where I find fault in New Orleans is that nothing was done in advance to help the poor and ill evacuate before the storm. I ran into people from Gulfport who said they didn't leave because they feared riding the storm out stuck on the highway worse than they did riding it out in their homes. Traffic and limited gasoline seemed to keep folks who weren't poor or ill from leaving.

AT least on 9-11 the Mayor of NYC had an office to go back to and a dry bed at night to lay down on. The mayor of New Orleans might have those today but not in New Orleans.

First, let me say that I think they could be doing a LOT better - and some of what's being done/the way it's being done is beyond my understanding.

That said - keep in mind that one problem is lack of communications. Many cell towers down, and even those that were working are probably out of power by now. Same for police/fire radios.

I suspect that one reason they haven't just brought in every available bus/truck/car/boat and gotten people out of the city is lack of fuel - where is the nearest reliable fuel source? I don't imagine buses can make it to TX without refueling somewhere along the line.

New Orleans is a logistical nightmare - at least most of the other places that were distroyed aren't sitting under 10ft or more of water.
I'm from a place called the internet. Nothing disturbs me.

    My question is this:

If the government knows that there are very poor people living in NO who might not have a way to get out of the way of a hurricane, why didn't the government send the busses in before the hurricane hit to get people and take them to safety?

Wouldn't that have been proactive? Would that have solved some of the problems?
