What do u feel about the IRL forum at Trackforum recently?
absurd. i come here for the news i can't find anywhere else. but, as a bonus, i get depressed because of the opinions of everyone else. i just have to keep my head high and remember... people are stupid!
i feel like im a stranger all the sudden.. IRL supporters like me and Wilke being quieted but people like Indyknut and others can say anything they want and still get there posting rights..
Maybe if you and Wilke focused on supporting the IRL rather than talking down other series....
...definitely not becoming a softer version of CW.
Though it's most definitely a pro-IRL site, sometimes IMO it gets a little too 'rah-rah' and some members don't like to hear or admit the negatives and realities that currently the IRL is facing and subsequently they lash out at fans who bring this to light.....sometimes warranted, and sometimes not.
Through all the good and sometimes the bad, it's the best public IRL forum on the 'net.
My first Indy 500 was 1973, haven't missed one since 1981. To date I have attended 35 Indy 500's, and probably 100 or so other IndyCar races (CART & IRL).
As a Champ Car fan who saw the original announcement of TF on the old IRACE/SV boards, I thought TF was a good idea, but doomed to failure. I was proved wrong.
TF adopted the perfect philosophy and strategy. While Champ Car forums splintered and bickered, TF made alliances, grew, and attracted quality posters (along with the dubious ones that plague every board).
The moderation philosophies, as evidenced by the Mark Twain quote at the top of the page, embodies some of the honor system developed by the veterans of the old wild-west style boards.
I've found that I can get away with a lot on this board as long as I stick to the discussion and be respectful of others. I don't post new grenade-throwing topics, and only respond to clarify. And if I might poke a stick now and again, it's all in good fun. And sometimes I take one in my eye.
I can't speak to the specific moderation policies of today, because I'm only an occasional visitor. However, I do think I'm seeing similar sentiments being expressed on other boards. I'm also noticing that truly interesting posts/posters are disappearing. It's not a TF thing. It's across the board. This makes the trivial stuff rise to the top.
One of the problems is that we've devolved to the state where there really is no difference between Indy Cars and Champ Cars. They're BOTH looking at being completely spec series by '07. One tire, one chassis, one engine.
We're talking about rearview mirror configurations fer chrissakes. That's all there is.
The fact is that the posters haven't gotten worse, the board hasn't gotten worse, the racing hasn't gotten worse.
But there just isn't much to talk about.
When I first came here I really enjoyed it. It was a place for people of a common interest to gather and talk. Yes, there are arguments in any given topic, but most ofter it is not vicious.
Now, at SpeedForum, such is not the case. Too many trolls and flamers. And, because of the overwhelming amount of CCWS fans, no respect for the Indy 500.
I still enjoy being here. Tho, due to lack of news out of the IRL, I have some doubts.

It's not CW by any stretch of the imagination. But Lord, there are plenty of people who want to make it CW.

When i first found this site a little over a year ago. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Now i can go a week with out visiting because i am tired of the doom and gloom.
But im sure im going to get attacked but its my opinion and frankly its the truth because many other optimistic people like myself completely agree that the doom and gloom is getting completely out of hand.

I come here to read news and hear rumors. Unfortunately, the news and rumor content seems to have declined while the spin and spew content has increased exponentially.

Probably not in the sense you'd describe but obviously anyone watching an IRL race at this point in time shouldn't be run off the board.
And I'm still trying to figure out how you, Wilkie or any other IRL fan is being quieted here.
According to your statistics....2533 posts since June of '04 gets something like 5.2 posts per day. Thats alot.Originally Posted by Indyknut

I voted 'no' and I must say that I'm stunned that so far the majority seem to think it is transforming into CW jr. Why is that? Is it because of the IRL going road racing this season and that split the hardcore oval centric fans away from the rest of us? If that is so, all I can say is I'm sorry those people feel that way. Whatever it is TF is a far cry from CW so I just don't get why so many seem to think that is the case.
On the first 3 pages of the IRL board, I've posted on a total of 15 threads out of appoximately 60-70 total. Most were a single post per thread. I'll be happy to link you to most of the threads if you want but the vast majority were stating my opinion and were not bashing, flaming or trolling.Originally Posted by Indycarjunkie
Here's what I've noticed that's lacking on this board. Prior to a race weekend, there are hardly any posts made. There's a bunch of posts made during the race and immediately afterwards, many redundant, but not many made before. It's as though no one's all that interested in the race.
I have other sources of news with reliable people.
I come here to enjoy pointless banter with some of the posters.
I have a blast at this place!!

Perhaps the stupidest part of the question is the comparison to another internet forum. If you want to give feedback about TrackForum, fine. But idiotic comparisons are not welcome.

I've had a lot of time to grow accustomed to feeling depressed... see, I'm one of the ones who is waiting for the engines to be returned to their rightful place.

And I don't think this place has changed that much, but the hopes and expectations we all have of the IRL have, as they should, given the evolution of the series.
So deal with it.

Actually Chris brings up a great point. I love debate. I do it every day for a living in the markets. But this is past debate. It's constant "see what we can get away with" mentality. It is cw jr in the splitzville. I understand the moderators want to keep it open for discussion, but some posters are here to solely bash the irl. I like and respect the old timer cart fans and they add a lot of great info and insight here. Besides, it would be boring if it was all one sided. But this place has been infiltrated by people who don't want to discuss, but rather bash the irl to death. And people wonder why the guys from 2000 aren't around anymore. It's reall kind of sad.Originally Posted by rev-ed

New forum. The Bright Side.
I enjoy the debate in the politi, uh, current events forum. Most forums avoid politics, especially the forums I find interesting. Since we are all presumably race fans, we have a point of reference even if we detest each others political point of view. The off topic forum can be interesting too.

Track Forum is the fairest and best run forum on the internet, and by a staggering margin too.
However, even that's not enough if people are more content looking for what's bad about racing rather than what's good about it.
