Vaporware DP01 somehow seen in wind tunnel

Apparently, it achieved solidity just long enough to give back some hard data... but it only formed up half-sized...

Interested observers were disappointed at the lack of grooved tires...

But Jim said all there is was pretty pictures, nothing else. You know, engineers still scratching their heads, no idea on dimensions of the car etc. because thats all there is to assume because CC didn't give those so concerend that infact there was progress. I hate to tell you but, I told you so.

    pfeeeww!

    That IS a beuty though.

That looks significantly different from the CAD photos!

More like an F1 car than a Champ Car

    Sure is friggin' pretty.

I hear Jason Leffler, the world's smallest racecar driver, is available...

Hell yes it's pretty. It's like an F1 car but without all of those weird-ass winglets and aero tweaks and stuff.

You know... this would look really really pretty driving across that yard of bricks near the end of May...

I do have to wonder, though... how the hell did the company responsible for the G-Force IRL car come up with something so drool-worthy? Maybe I'm starstruck, but I don't think even an airbox would make this thing ugly...

Its Dale Jr in the cockpit

Whats odd is that, are all the toolboxes half scale too? The car looks bigger then %50, kinda weird.

This should be a great car indeed.

I think it's a great looking car. G-force and Panoz always were my favorite looking cars in the IRL.

I'd like to see KK come over to the IRL and bring that car and engine with him. As mr tibbs said in 'heat of the night'. Be sensible. He would be by bringing his car to Mindy.

Tell Tony to tell Panoz to build an IRL car like it and come over...... remember, the DP01 is a 5 year evolution of the IRL car in a number of areas.

Or tell Tony to relax his rules.

Clearance for parts of the front suspension. They either are present, or have been on previous versions, of the IRL car as well.

Told us what? Is the car done? Have the dimensions been set, have all the components been determined? I'll grant you, a lot of work has been done but there is a lot more to go before this car hits the track.

Dallara uses clearance humps them but I don't think Panoz does.

    The Panoz/G-Force does as well.

The car is much closer to the camera than the toolboxes are... I have to agree, that is one pretty looking race car. The most interesting tidbit is that the first prototype is expected to hit the track in July. If that's the case, I would not be at all surprised to see the new car making exhibition runs at ChampCar events - and gathering data at the same time.

As for who will drive, maybe ChampCar is trying to have a closer tie to midget racing.

It seems like it's just Danica's size...

As the 2006 Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford season continues to sneak closer, officials from Élan Motorsports Technologies (EMT) and Champ Car have their eyes even further down the road as EMT put a scale model of the 2007 DP01 chassis in the wind tunnel for the first time.

EMT engineers and officials from Champ Car were on hand at the Penske Technology Group wind tunnel for the debut of the half-scale model of the Panoz DP01 chassis. The group put the model through its introductory tests and were pleased with the results they achieved.
Panoz doesn't have their own wind tunnel?

That angle doesn't do them justice. I have some side shots of Danica's car from PIR last year that I took that really bring them out. They're about the same size as the ones on the DP01 model.

They look more defined on the model because it's straight CF and isn't painted or anything.

    The things aren't cheap, y'know.

NASCAR, of course, saves on this kind of stuff by just using Dave Despain's mouth.

They still need to start the detailed work on the car.
