If every bar band that ever did "In the Midnight Hour" paid royalties to Pickett, he probably could've afforded a brand new ticker.

Not to be "pick"-y at a time like this, but Wilson Pickett was most definitely NOT Motown. Pickett recorded for Stax Records out of Memphis with the great soul producer Jerry Wexler and backed by Booker T and the MG's (the band in The Blues Brothers; they were from Niles, MI, right across the border from South Bend, BTW). Also with Stax Records were Sam and Dave ("Soul Man", "Hold on, I'm Comin'"), Otis Redding, and Aretha Franklin (she recorded "Respect" while with Stax, which was written by Redding).Originally Posted by Jeff Chiszar

Good clarification sf-indy fan. The only thing I would add is that "Motown soul" is an oxymoron.
