Sadly, it wasn't as close as the final score indicates. The U.S. d*** near got MercyRuled.

    GG, Canada.

I thought for sure Chase Utley had given us the lead when he hit that BLAST to deep CF. Stinkin canadian had to make a nice catch though....

Well, they're playing the WBC on a wider field and the Americans aren't used to it.

A well-placed slap shot might do him some good...

    From jono's link:

Trailing 8-6, the U.S. appeared poised to tie the game but Stern robbed Chase Utley of extra bases with a huge glove catch against the centre-field wall.
"Glove catch"? As opposed to a barehand catch?

Ah, but then in hockey, you have a glove save, a pad save, etc. right?

    LOL... I didn't catch that.

Yes, in hockey they use terms like "glove save", "pad save", etc... probably a hockey writer.

Well, I think the Canada game was a wake-up call.

The U.S. leads South Africa 17-0.

Well it's not the first time.

Toronto beat Atlanta and Philadelphia in the World Series. I remember going into a Toronto restaurant during a CART event and seeing the headlines on a Canadian paper that said "Our Americans are Better Than Your Americans."
