It's really early here and I didn't get a whole lot of sleep last night. I'm hoping this thread is a figmant of my sleep deprived imagination. I'm gonna go back to bed for a couple of hours now and when I wake up, this thread will be nowhere to be found...I hope.

"Ninety-two years ago [the Indy 500] was probably like any other race," said 2005 winner Dan Wheldon. "But over time it's just created so many storylines and history for people of our generation that now it's just massive. People value that history and tradition and you just can't take that away."

    I'll send you $.05 then.

    This is a joke, right?

This is NASCAR's drive for diversity, a Mark Martin rap song?

This is so stupid and absurd it's funny. Pitiful funny, but funny.

Reminds me of that crappy Burt Reynolds NASCAR movie where he has to wear the chicken suit. Shut up and do what we say becuase without us your just another hick running for $500 to win on Saturday night

So tell me please, if Biffle or one of the Busch boys records a rap album, will it create a whole wave of East Coast/West Coast NASCAR driver turned rapper violence? This could make those driver appearences much more interesting

selling your soul does have unintended consequences.

And JMHO, but the whole lot of them jumped the shark before "jumping the shark" was a phrase.

Fo' sho'--Mark is an original gangsta'. Seriously, someone at marketing must be busting a gut in hilarious disbelief that they actually got that phrase past the editor and into public circulation.

I don't know who is going down, but surely this is one of the signs of the apocalypse.

Shake the money tree long enough and eventually you have to shake it hard enough to get those branches waaaay at the top of the tree.

You can say what you want, but it was well documented during a "NASCAR 360" segment last year that one Mr. Mark Martin is actually very fond of Rap and Hip-Hop... It is a point of near embarrassment for his son Matt, who can't stand the stuff, btw...

Go ahead and make fun of it... but it is well known throughout the NASCAR garage that Mark Martin is a Rap/Hip-Hop fan. This started making main-stream press last year.

    From USA Today (8/25/05):

"In a side note, Labonte's car will feature a cartoonified image of NBA star LeBron James on its hood this weekend. Although we could think of better driver matches for James — Sadler for his basketball skills and Martin for his familiarity with hip-hop culture (Martin listens to rap music. Seriously.)"

Joke all you want... But it's true...

Who's making fun? I think this is a perfect match. Once Mark is done with NASCAR, he can have a whole new career. Of course, since his initials are MM, his stage name options are limited since he can't go with Eminem. He could bill himself as Mos Boogity Thug 6, though.

For some reason, I get this vision of Mark Martin, standing in the parking of a club, next to a pastel Fusion, with a purple fedora on his head, a blunt in his mouth, and a half pint of Martel in his hands.....Yoo, Boogity 6, how's it hangin?
