Well we all knew it was just a matter of time...

    this is from his Momma...

Arlene Landis, his mother, said Thursday that she wouldn't blame her son if he was taking medication to treat the pain in his injured hip, but "if it's something worse than that, then he doesn't deserve to win."

"I didn't talk to him since that hit the fan, but I'm keeping things even keel until I know what the facts are," she told The Associated Press in a phone interview from her home in Farmersville, Pennsylvania. "I know that this is a temptation to every rider but I'm not going to jump to conclusions ... It disappoints me."
doesn't sound good. He's been suspended by his team and Phonak says if the back-up test confirms the results of the first that Landis will be fired from the team.

Does'nt matter, cheating is cheating. That would only mean they were all disqualified and no one wins.

There is NO proffessional athlete and most probably NO college athlete and even many a high school athlete who do not use performance enhancing drugs.

It is a part of life now a days, either the rules change to accept this or reduce the level of competition to where winning at all cost is not the priority, otherwise it will continue.

Talking I just got a shot of testosterone

It makes me feel like a celebrity being quoted. Never had that before. Thanks sf-indy-fan.

Of course you all know the breaded pork tenderloin is a Pennsylvania Dutch (German Deutsch) derivative from Weiner Schnitzel and that the son of a Mennonite probably dosed on one the night before and got his shot of testosterone that way. Yep, that explains it.

    this is so ridiculous

"He does not have a high level of testosterone. That's not been documented. He has a high ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone in his urine," Landis' personal physician, Dr. Brent Kay, said Friday night on CNN's "Larry King Live."

"Which could be due to an elevated testosterone level. It could be due to a low epitestosterone level. And it could be due to a variety of other factors with handling and specimen contamination and various other things."
Kay, speaking from Los Angeles, also said that using testosterone would hurt rather than help a cyclist.

"I think everybody needs to take a step back and look at what we're talking about. Because testosterone is a bodybuilding steroid that builds mass," Kay said. "It builds mass over long-term use of weeks, months, and even years.

"And it's crazy to think that a Tour de France professional cyclist would be using testosterone, particularly in the middle of a race. It's a joke. Every sports medicine expert, physician, trainer, scientist that I've talked to in the last day, have really the same opinion, 'No way. This is a joke."'

The test was performed at the same lab that spent years trying without success to prove that Armstrong was doping.

"But I will say this," the seven-time Tour de France champ told The Associated Press in a phone interview Friday. "When Floyd was with us, there was never a problem. We never saw anything even remotely off, never had a reason to suspect anything. He left our team for a better offer. There was no suspicious behavior, none. It's that simple."

"Secondly, I can't help but be aware the lab that found this suspicious reading is the same one that was at the center of the 'L'Equipe affair.'

The French newspaper, L'Equipe, said samples taken from Armstrong during the 1999 Tour de France and then frozen tested positive for the blood-booster EPO. The International Cycling Union commissioned a report that later cleared Armstrong of the doping allegations.

"When an independent investigator contacted the lab, they wouldn't answer the simplest of questions, wouldn't go into their testing ethics, who did the tests, etc., etc," Armstrong said. "I don't personally have a ton of faith in that lab. I think they should lose their authorization and the report pretty much supports that."

"Tour de France champion Floyd Landis tested positive for high levels of testosterone, but experts tell WebMD that there could be many reasons why."
"an injection of testosterone is not some sort of miracle, immediate boost like an amphetamine or stimulant," Collins says. "Athletes who use testosterone use it over a fairly long course and the benefit accumulates over a period of time."
Testosterone would not account for his comeback, Collins stresses.
"A single shot of testosterone would provide little or no benefit."
"Exactly when he tested positive is also somewhat suspicious, says Eliot. The test was done at stage 17, which coincides with one of the most intense parts of the race.

"The more heavily we exert ourselves, the more naturally our body releases testosterone," he says."
"The bottom line is that the information was released too prematurely, he says. "Wait until we get the final answers. If he cheated, it will be recognized; if he did not, this does him a great disservice."

This trumped up scandal is a viscious and pathetic attack on Landis by an inept and bitter group angry at the fact that 8 straight tours have been won by Americans.

The pre tour doping scandal on the other hand involved illegal and banned use of performance enhancements by other cyclists.

Landis had an exemption from the Tour to take cortisone shots for pain in his hip, which will require surgery for a degenerative condition, and was taking an oral medication for hyperthyroidism. He and his doctor were consulting with experts to see if those drugs might have thrown off his testosterone levels.

The thing that gets me the most is all the talking heads (and by that I mean the radio heads--mostly from ESPN) who automatically conclude that he is guilty. With all the information from EDwardo's post above, you can see that it is just foolish to jump to that conclusion so quickly.

I've had my doubts about Lance in the past, but I'm erasing them now because of what Landis is going through.

The problem now is not just sport. The problem is that I care too much about it. I get hooked in to these people that I don't know anything about personally--all because they are good at some physical activity.

What I tell my young kids who are now just getting into sports, and it's now something that I need to heed myself, is that if you want to play a sport, do it as hard as you can and do so because you enjoy it. Winning and losing and competition are all a part of it, but when it stops being fun, get out.

This is all ceasing to be enjoyable for me. I'm definitely not blaming Floyd because I believe that he is innocent. I'm just the fool here that cares too much...

For those that thinks Landis is guilty until proven innocent. I'm no Doctor, but these doctors have an opinion.

This report seems to be bad news...I believe we are still awaiting the B sample, but not sure if it matters?

Report says that Landis had synthetic testosterone in system

I hope the "source" got his facts straight...

more of the same as with Armstrong it seems:

The French antidoping lab testing the American cyclist's samples determined that some of the hormone came from an external source, The New York Times reported on its Web site Monday night, citing a person at the International Cycling Union with knowledge of the result.
leaked info from the same French lab that was in middle of the Armstrong garbage

this whole deal has just sucked all the joy out of cycling, as a fan of it, for me.

as a participant in the sport, well they can't ruin that for me can they.
    It's a brand new day.

And at the same time, I just heard LeMond say that the labs in Europe were very professional. This is a tough one. I'm not sure if we'll ever know what the truth is.

Cycling is still a great sport...professional cycling: now that's a different matter.

I'm still wondering if Ivan Basso will clear his name. After Jan Ullrich was thrown off his team, I think we are left to draw our own conclusions.
