    Thumbs up

carl s, I often wonder how many of the race fans that attend the big leagues of racing or watch them on the tube have ever found out what your pictures depict?!?! For my part, especially the pic with all the Flags in attendance.....

    I love it!!

'Carl, yes, 'was aware of the curtain coming down on Stockton's 99. Was anyone aware of the attendance and turn-out at Roseville's (CA) All-American Speedway? Friday (09/15) and Saturday (09/16) among the drivers on hand: Parnelli Jones, himself, who won the sprint car portion in a Grant King built USAC Silver Crown car on Sat. night., 1972 USAC Turkey Night Grand Prix winner, Tony Simon, former USAC driver Ken Nichols, who won the midget portion in the former Art Shanoian Offy, among others. And cars on hand: the Bogar's Speed Shop sprint car #99 (in original/last raced condition) formerly driven by Jan Opperman, the black CRA #2, Ernie Duncan Chevy, formerly driven by 2-time CRA champion Billy Wilkerson, the Hardwood Door Offy, formerly driven by Shorty Templeman, now owned by Bob Nielson of Ukiah, CA. who also now owns, displayed and drove the former Agajanian Rev500 Special formerly driven by Parnelli Jones, Dick Atkins, Billy Vukovich, Bruce Walkup and Sam Sessions (all with the big Offy) that now houses an Indy Ford DOHC. Sorry but, this doesn't even scratch the surface of the other cars and drivers that were in attendance. 'Quite a remarkable event!

    Goes to show....

That older folks do have one advantage over the younger ones. Memories!

Wanna know what's wrong with NASCAR? They've gone from Junior Johnson to Jimmie Johnson.

Wanna know what's wrong with IndyCar? It's gone from dirt ovals to street races.

Which reminds me of the time Frankie Schneider was interviewed at one of the Super Dirt Week races back in the late 90's. He was sitting on a golf cart and "Cowboy" Paul Szmal of the DIRT TV Network said to Frankie, "You must have a lot of great memories from all your years in racing."

Frankie smiled in reply, "Yes I do, but I can't remember any of 'em."

From what a couple of my friends told me, it was absolutely the greatest show on dirt. Plus, the side trip down to the sleazy clubs in Nogales was a thing of legend!

    Hey Carl,

Looked for you on the overpass, went by you at 9:00 AM sharp. Now I am out in the boones again with no racing close until I go to Indy in three weeks.

Micki., Hi Gal, always a day late to find you. Will if you go to Indy thou

That is life in the Ozarks, Would love a track like the Pas close to home.

Funny, someone mentioned a boiler plate track guy in this post, had a guy sit behind me at The Pas that fit that discription and he was from your side of the hill Carl.

5-19-07 Start of feature: Lealand McSpadden Night - Manzanita Speedway
Thanks to Mrs Wags (One of our greatest photographers ever) Mr Wags and wagtimes.com

    Lealand 4 yrs cancer free

Last time I spoke with him was 1994? About 2:30 am in the south west Mojave Desert in an all night truck stop (20 miles from Boron - any of you old mechanics remember Boraxo hand cleanser?) he wasn't too happy with the evening's racing at Mesa Marin paved oval in Bakersfield and still looked a bit shaken by it all. I think it was the first time the CRA had run on that paved oval since they were the headliner at the tyrack opening in the 70s.
