Took me a while to find this thread. Cant believe its sat dormant for almost a year.
Anywhoooo, modfieds at I-77 Speedway in Richburg, SC.
About a half hour South of Charlotte.
I was spoiled growing up where I grew up, and I will never get used to the Southern way of short track auto racing but this place has grown on me
This isnt a regular class at I-77.
I think 12 or 13 signed in
Not a Modified but it was in the folder

He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true they say
He's the master of going faster. -George Harrison
Ray Evernham showed up with his 305 Sprint car this week @ I-77 Speedway in South Carolina. Not very many sprints showed up but it was still nice to see them racing an hour from my house. He won. Its a new series that just started up in the Carolinas and the way I hear it Ray declined his winnings to help the club

Aloha Buddie,,,
Is he,,,, Ray still married or involved with that
young girl that was driving sprint cars... ???
He's got to have a few bucks,,, no ???
Also a big "Mahalo" for posting these
great pictures...
Big
Yes,,, Yes,,, Tony,,,
Your Grandfather was a friend of Roger Penske,,,
Your Grandfather did business with Roger Penske,,, but
Your Grandfather never trusted Roger Penske,,,
Still married to Erin I believe.
I did hear that shes not driving now
He must have been very smart with his Hendrick Bucks as he has this habit now of restroing all his old race cars and racing a sprint car for no money
Randy Bernard might serve himself well by soliciting the business perspective of a sportsman like Evernham to gain a bit more practical insight into what this is all about.
Thanks for the shots and the news.![]()

So pleased to hear that there is still an oval track in the Hawaiian Islands. I knew there was still one open several years ago but a guy I knew who used to go to Hawaii a few times a year told me he thought the track was in trouble and was closing
It cannot be cheap to race in Hawaii and the car counts must be pretty slim
Hilo Motor Speedway is a few miles from Hilo Airport on The Big island.
I think your friend was thinking of (Dirt oval, road course and drag strip) Hawaii Motorsports Center (Park Complex) on the island of Oahu that was having its land use zoning changed from Agricultural to Industrial and making a huge profit for the land owner.

Id guess that is the place he was talking about since I was friends with the guy when I lived on the West Coast from 2005 thru 2007
I dont remember a cameraman being behind me last night, but at least he got my good side

Friendship Speedway in Elkin, NC. I was told last night that it was a NASCAR sanctioned asphalt track at one time. The inner concrete fence is only 18 inches high in some places so I guess they just covered it with dirt and called it good. Small stands on the front straight and drive in parking from Turn 1 all the way around to Turn 3. I was thinking the crowd sucked until I looked up and saw all the campfires and tailgaters on the hill. Neat place, lots of atmosphere.

Is this that new Carolina 305 sprint series?
Yup. They had 5 or 6 cars sign in at their races last season, and 9 cars have signed in both times theyve run so far this year. More are being bought and built too.
Not bad for a brand new sprint car series in the heart of stock car country
Id be tickled pink if we could eventually get 14-16 consistently showing up
I remember when the KARS 358 Sprint started at Williams Grove with 5 or 6 cars, with in 4 or 5 years they were up to 30 plus. Hope then can get up to that mid teen mark soon.
Geography allows them to set the bar a little lower too.
If youre drawing 5-10 sprints in PA youre doomed.
But even with only 9 cars last night I think we outdrew a couple of the regular weekly divisions.
Fans in the Carolinas dont come to the track expecting every class to need three heats and B-Main to set the field

Is that the place Bobby Hamilton was involved with?
and yes that looks like a tight little joint
Two drag strips connected with two OHMYGODS!
Looks like a nice modern tower.
Ive been in a couple that I wasnt sure if they were still going to be standing at the end of the night
yeeee haaaaaa jamski looks like a racy place to have a gig!!
returning to the days of ignorant bliss..
No pix during the races, I was too busy wearing out my trachea……but here's a few from the pits…we had 20 cars show, 18 took times, 16 broke the track record.
Beautiful, well-groomed track. Same guy that originally built it in 73 is the one who's out there every race day grading and watering it. He built it for his kids to play on and opened it to racers on a lark. Now it's got a couple who really want to make it work. Everything is brand new…even the rookie street stock cars carry transponders and race-ceivers.
Hardest thing to come to grips with is that there's three other dirt tracks (Tennessee National, Thunderhill, and Winchester) within a short distance, and they all seem to want to run on the SAME NIGHT…good way to make sure NO ONE has any cars or profit.
