    I thought the same thing.

You cant see it in the photos but the road for the pit entrance is right behind turn 1. Theres about a 30' drop off right behind that teribly inadequate guard rail. If anyone ever gets over the fence right there, they are not gonna be around to see Sunday morning

Only track Ive ever seen where the drivers take their kids out in the race cars for track packing. I saw one guy with his baby (with pacifier in mouth) packing the track with the baby in his lap. Another had a small boy standing where the passenger front seat would be and he was standing up thru where the windshield would have been.

Something tells me they dont need to worry about what the insurance company would say. My wife asked me why I hadnt called DYFS yet
Faster than a bullet from a gun
    He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true they say
He's the master of going faster. -George Harrison

I'm surprised that ASCS would race at a track like this. Kids in a car on track, thats just nuts!

Hilarious reading the track message board yesterday and today. Inbred Zekes complaining about the "Outlaws" making the show so expensive

Also comments on how they should spend the cash on another travelling stock car class instead of sprint cars next yr.

I guess 4 classes of Camaros just isnt enough for some people

I personally think it's ok to let kids ride in the cars for packing the track etc. True there is some risk involved, but so is letting kids play football and baseball. Packing the track is not the same as hot laps and drivers don't even wear their helmets to pack the track.
Some people will do nearly anything in order to be able to not do anything.

Back here in the East if your in the car and on the track you must have your helmet on and be belted in the car. All it takes is someone hitting the gas a bit to kick up a rock and then you've got someone with a knot on their head or worst.

    Seriously.

I'm pretty amazed even when I go to the Indiana short tracks how much less safety conscious the speedways are than here in PA. Then I hear about wheelpacking with kids in the car and realize there are folks living even further in the past than Indiana!

I understand what you and others are saying, but there is another point of view. I too sometimes wonder if it's a good idea for drivers to pack the track without helmets and sometimes no seat belts. However, I think the thinking is that they want the track packed slowly with no spinning of the tires. Often the guy in the car for track packing is not the actual driver and probably subject to wanting to mash the gas. But even at slow speeds a throttle could stick open.

In NJ if you drove the car on the track you had to be wearing all your safety gear.
And you gotta be out of your mind to pack the track and not be belted in. A wet dirt tack is slicker than snot on a door knob.

I doubt the track I was at had insurance, but I really doubt any insurance provider will OK payment on a toddler injuerd in a track packing incident

There's been some chatter about the negative effects on car and body count of the new 'passport' rule.

It ised to be a pain in the a$$ to get a race car across the USA/Canada Border before crazy people flew planes into buildings. I cannot imagine how it is now

I got to the track in time to see the first car hit the track for packing last night. I didn't think about it until a few minutes later, but when I did, I paid attention. Most if not all were wearing helmets. However almost none were wearing their firesuits. The only one I saw in his/her firesuit was a mini sprint, who was not wearing gloves.

I've heared that too...As long as people have their papers in order, there should'nt be a problem.I went to Delaware Speedway in the beginning of June to see the Auto Value Super Sprints...They only brought 11 cars. The reason given for this was the passport issue. The problem was not from the Canadian side,it was the American authotities saying that if Americans went across the border without a passport, they could be detained on the way back!

The good thing about ISMA is that there are alot of Canadian teams,so if they can get 20 cars,we'll be OK...

Hopefully, for the 2 day show at Delaware in a month, things will be straightened out.

A record crowd got to watch Tony Stewart race and win. This track is about an hour away from where I live. I wish I had been paying attention. I could have gone to the races and also gone on a Yuengling run across the PA border.

Yuengling is one of the few American beers that I really like!

I wish I could get it up here, and I found out they won't ship it!

    It's spectacular!!!

Yuengling is available here in SC. Sort of.

You can get the Lager and Black & Tan pretty much anywhere.

But they cannot get Yuengling Porter here for some goofy reason.

I even put in a special request for it at the Liquor/Beer/Wine Superstore and they were told no

I-77 Speedway. Richburg, SC. Maybe 45 minutes South of Charlotte.
One of the nicer tracks Ive been to in SC. Most tracks here I will go to once and never go again. They are that bad here. But I will come back to this one. My wife will only go to a track if its clean and not scary. I will take her to this track Car counts were not half bad and there was actual 3 wide racing at times
They let you bring in your own beer too

Got back from Cayuga a few hours ago from the ISMA race...

    1st.Mark Sammut

    2nd.Ben Sietz

    3rd.Jeff Holbrook

Sammut's 1st ISMA win and he made a completely insane move going into turn one trying to pass Sietz late in the race.He put two wheels into the grass and almost ended up in the wall.Luckily, that did'nt happen, and he passed Sietz in turn 4 a few laps later and drove away.

The Rawley Rocket,Chris Perley, was a total non-factor in the race although he dominated his heat.He was racing with Russ Wood for most of the afternoon, but he never got close to the leaders. The left side plate on his top wing collapsed late in the race,as well...

USA Raceway, Tucson AZ, Saturday the 11th.

My first time to this track, nice little 3/8mi clay oval squeezed between the airport and Davis-Monthan AFB. They ran 7 classes, with UMP Modifieds headlining the show.

Racing was pretty good. 2 groove track for the big cars, 3+ for the dwarfs and mod lites. Great crowd, despite it being about 107F at 7pm, but the $10 per carload special probably helped with that. I'm pleased to find some good dirt track action out here, 15 minutes from my house, after being in San Diego and having to drive 40 minutes to the rinky dink track at Barona, or the 90 minutes to Perris.

One quick pic, I can post some more later.

A hot June afternoon at Madera Fairgrounds.
An unexpected 'early' call to stage the WRA/BCRA midgets for their heat race (always an impromptu fit into a tight track schedule) sends everyone scurrying to get ready for the push truck.
The driver owner of the newly restored #20 was in the restroom across the pitt area when 'the call' went out, everyone else was already out on the track getting 'hot' and impatient
I though he'd collapse catching up...

If you guessed this track was located in the Carolina hillcountry you'd be close...

Start of a warm and pleasant evening of racing on a January 2009 evening in Rotorua, NZ

    Beautiful location

Reminds me of Huntsville (AL) Speedway which I was at once in 1988
