Saw Ian Anderson last night.
Backed by the usual guitar, bass drums and keyboard...
...as well as a 12 piece orchestra.
The good: He played what he bloody well wanted to play and how he wanted to play it. Much classical music in the first act. Much Tull in the second act.
The bad: His voice is shot. Sylables trailed off into silence. Might have helped if they had him miked a bit stronger.
The sublime: He winked and laughed then they launched into an instrumental version of Zepplin's "Kashmir" in which his very talented and very beautiful lead violinist, Lucia Micarelli*, practically set her strings on fire. A ripping good piece which resulted in a tumultuous standing ovation. Clearly the highlight of the night.
