Well, so far it hasn't been all moonlight and roses now has it... I suspect the paychecks are pretty decent however...

KK needs to stop answering questions. He just reveeals that he doesn't get it.

AJ could come back to Champ car in a minute, if he wanted. They'd take him, too.

''You just don't know what CC means''

Could these guys get anymore clueless? And, why do they have to disparge any and all that don't follow their mindset?

Reminds me why I'm an F1 and IRL fan.

Funny, I don't remember Tony saying anything when Yeley left.

    The full article is HERE.

Clearly Forsythe states that is simply business, but KK is obviously bitter about the loss.

It's just racing, and for most a business.

Wait til the rest of his superstars bolt for F1.

At least, that's what they say they want. KK is going to be PO something awful.

So what was the talk about Honda all about? Were they wanting Cosworth to supply the engines in a merged series? I don't see how that would be an issue otherwise, since Honda has said they want competition.

oh heck, since no one else is gonna do it ... maybe this is what he was trying to say:

"AJ was in a good car with a good team and was winning races. Now he is grinding it out on the Nascar circuit, apparently with no hope of winning a race in at least the next 10 years. I wonder if he regrets his decision?"

just an an opposing thought on the subject.

It wouldn't be a stretch to believe that Allendinger has gotten more exposure to more fans in his NASCAR career even not qualifying than he did winning in CC and gotten paid better for the effort.

I don't think he regrets it, but he certainly can't be relishing the DNQs

Is that the same regret as being a JDSU shareholder Sorry, couldn't resist.

    IMHO,

AJ will make much more money per year while he's in NASCAR than he would have in ChampCar.

AJ will win and/or lead many fewer races while he's in NASCAR.

Guess it depends on one's perspective and desires.

If the NASCAR experiment falls through, I'll welcome him back to open wheelers, be it CC or ICS.

you forgot to add that he is probably very uncomfortable sitting on a fat wallet too.

Every driver in NASCAR could have won more races by staying in a NASCAR feeder series, continuing to dominate at the local short track or racing in an OW series like Champ Car or USAC. It is just stupid to think that AJ regrets moving up to the #1 racing series in America, and unlike Paul Tracy I don't get the feeling that he expected overnight success.

He is probably getting paid more than any Champ Car driver and that is really what bothers KK, that a NASCAR driver gets paid more to watch races then his stars make for winning them.

  21. #21
Hard to believe I'm about the only one in total agreement with KK.

From a 2006 career marked by a career low (being fired) followed by triumphant highs (3 wins in a row) so extraordinary if this was a movie script you wouldn't believe it.

From being a winning professional open wheel driver to a very rich loser in NASCAR. Like the ring of that? AJ Allmendinger the rich loser. I imagine most here see him as a winner in the salary 500. I've known many, many people who are doing something they hate for the money. Usually they aren't very happy.

Hey kid, is this what you always dreamed of? Man you've got all the money a young man could want. But you're not driving a high RPM high grip thoroughbred racing machine, instead you're racing trucks and the ugliest race car ever conceived at the pro levels of motor racing, the COT. There's no Elkhart Lake or Long Beach on this race schedule either. Happy?

Perhaps AJ does not suffer from OW superiority complex and views the switch to NASCAR as the huge step up that it is. How many baseball players would turn down a chance to play in the majors in order to remain a superstar on a AA team? Like it or not, NASCAR is the pinnacle of motorsports in the US.

What an idiot. AJ Almendinger is going to make more money in NASCAR than if he had stayed in ChampCar. He will race against better competition. He will race in front of more fans. When he has success, he will know he earned it.

There is nothing wrong with measuring yourself against the best on the biggest stage.

... assuming he ever gets into a race!

Time will tell if he made the right decision. When he got his head together in ChampCar, he was so fast, could have been contending for championships, possibly even earning F1 consideration.

What will AJ be doing next year? The year after that? If he can't stay in Cup, then it was a bad decision... if he can make a career out of it, then probably a good decision.

    Agreed....

They raced cleaner and better in the last two "shared" events than the CCWS guys did...less cautions (one each at Long Beach and Houston), even though there were slower classes racing simultaneously that they had to pass in concrete canyons that do not have much room, and they had former or current F-1, Champ Car and IRL drivers in the various events...

I didn't see one ALMS driver stick a parked car during a yellow in either the LB or Houston race...not one...just as an example...

    JMO...FWIW

With the money he is getting from Toyota, he could live on an income like we do, invest the rest, and live off of the interest before he gets fired...he wouldn't have to race the rest of his life...

    That'd be AWESOME!

Except I thought most racers liked racing.
