The only time I prayed was last year when I said "Please God, don't let that whiney little snot win this race the first time out..."

God loves me and came through even though I don't believe in him.

Everyone believes in Him sooner or later. Sometimes its too late however.
    JMHO of course.

I pray every day. Real short ones all day. Sometimes its as simple as "please how about a good day?" or "let me find this address ASAP." Or if things go well, just a simple "Thanks Big Guy"

My prayers change daily with two exceptions.

I always pray that I live long enough to see my kids become adults and I always pray that I never have to bury a child.

Next I'll pray for those who never pray.

I've had a couple of times where I was in a situation and thought I can't prove either way if there is anything out there, but if there is I'd need all the help I can get right now. Once we got out of it ourselves, albeit crispier, the other time a freak stroke-of-luck occurence happened so I can't say it wasn't.

Not that I should argue with it.

I try not to pray just in a 911 situation.
I attempt to keep in contact regularly.
    Have a very blessed day!

Yeah, I pray. This may sound bad but it's a habit I got into when I was a kid. I'm 48 and even now at night when I can't get to sleep, I'll remember that I haven't prayed, say a prayer, and usually go right to sleep. I don't consider myself a religous person, don't attend church regularly, but I do pray.

I still respect those those don't though. Hence why I though crispies post was hilarious. My disdain for the Andretti's contributed as well.

Yes. Why wouldn't I? A direct line to unload my burdens on the Ruler of the Universe sounds good to me!

By the way, on a related subject, I would like to admit to poor judgement regarding an (ultimately answered) prayer. When the Cleveland GP announced its plans to move to the IRL, I prayed that the race would stay in CART. It did and the CGP is now saddled with the uncertainty of being part of an unstable series.
Some fans claim one series or another runs "real race cars." What's everybody else running, fake race cars?

I read the 'Saint Francis Prayer', usually 2x per day, say the 'Serenity Prayer' a lot & some others.

All through the day, everyday. And I fall asleep at night praying, too. I've evolved into praying not so much for results, but for acceptance, God's will and peace. I also have a lengthy list of those who have health problems, grief, etc. that I pray for daily. Unfortunatley, that list seems to grow longer all the time. My favorite prayers are those of Thanksgiving. I believe it was Rilke (not 100% sure about it though) who said, "If your only prayer is Thank You, it is enough".

Since it's my belief that everything we think goes straight to God, then all thought is a form of prayer. So in that respect, I try to be careful about what I think.

I don't buy this arguement. I don't thin k you can "decide" to believe. Either you do or you don't. You certainly can profess belief, and I suspect that is the case with most people.

I am open to belief, but it has not happened. I will not be dishonest and claim belief.

If I have to face judgement, I can face it with a clear conscience, I searched my deepest feelings and thought, and it wasn't there.

Those who truley have that belief have something that I don't, but I see no upside to whine about that.

Oh, btw, I don't pray. (or prey for that matter)

Pascal's wager assumes that God rewards belief. I'm sure that not everyone would agree with that as an a priori assumption.

And of course, even if God does reward belief, belief based on that wager wouldn't be true belief.

I don't have any problem admitting I pray, early and often. Neither do I have any qualms about confessing that I'm not exactly certain to whom I'm speaking, but I'm pretty certain someone's listening. I don't always get the response I expect (or desire) but that's okay. Just knowing someone's there, and that they care, is enough.

Well....the Pascal posts had me remembering things differently & motivated me to take 'Pensees' down & read a bit.

I believe he was saying more like .......move the feet & the mind will follow.

And, don't look only into a prayer book, but into yourself. And don't blindly follow a cleric, but knowingly follow your heart.

Pensee #10 "People are generally better persuaded by the reasons they have themselves discovered than by those which have come into the minds of others."

Blaise Pascal was religious his short (39yrs) life, but his father got caught up in Jansenism, (basically fundamentalist, hell & brimstone Catholics...which really took root in Ireland & is a big reason we Irish-Catholics are so screwed up).

'Pensees' was (I've just read), 'notes' for a planned defense of Christianity which he never lived to write.

I've liked & thought about his 'wager' since college. But, I believe it's context is much larger & infinitley more nuanced than, '..it's a safe bet. Fake it for 70 yrs versus risking eternal damnation.'
