I like 'ol Hugo. What he had to say last Fall at the UN was about on the mark.

I am not a socialist, but I can certainly see it as a legitimate "developmental stage" form of government for emerging third world nations. Sadly, for Venezuela, however, it really does not apply and is totally inappropriate. In that regard, I dislike the man and his motivations.

Overall, though, I could not have agreed with him more last Fall. And he read Noam Chomsky, one of my favorite writers. "Hegemony or Survival" and "Chronicles of Dissent" are fantastic reads. I also suggest "Understanding Power."

Hugo Chavez may not be my political cup of tea, but I liked that UN speech.

Forty-three had it coming. And what gasses my can, now the weenie may turn to the UN with his tailtucked for helpout of Iraq!

Much of Latin America's goverment is a shameful disgrace. The poverty is hideous and without compare in our hemisphere. Many places to point the finger, but one stands out...corruption!

What is Chavez doing to help the (different kind of poor than we know in the USA) poor in his country? How are the "regular" folks in Venezuela doing? Will any of the "regular folks" be attending the 500?

I think this might be the wrong place to pump up Chavez.

On 27 September 2006 the 7-Eleven chain of convenience stores announced its 20-year contract with Citgo was coming to an end and would not be renewed. 7-11 Spokeswoman Margaret Chabris said "Regardless of politics, we sympathize with many Americans' concern over derogatory comments about our country and its leadership recently made by Venezuela's president. Certainly Chavez's position and statements over the past year or so didn't tempt us to stay with Citgo." In January 2007 he was quoted as saying "Go to Hell, Gringos" in response to criticism from the U.S. government regarding his decisions as Venezuelan president.[2] Chavez has stated he will enact reforms to make Venezuela a socialist state, including nationalizing the telecom, electricity and natural gas sectors.[3] Perhaps in an effort to mitigate the damage to its image from being associated with Chavez, Citgo launched a national ad campaign in the fall of 2006 emphasizing the company's corporate social responsibility[4]. National television ads also aired through February 2007 featuring ordinary Americans thanking Citgo and Venezuela for providing discounted heating oil to low-income people.[5]

You sir have no clue. American has sold out her soul. The flag is more a corporate advertising logo than the symbol of freedom, don't make me go there. Patriotism talk is just that, talk. I've spent the greater part of ten years in the Infantry don't preach to me about patriotism.

I appologize with repect to your service. I have a great respect for you, your service and sacrifice.

I get pretty passionate about Latin America, and the governments that "dictate" there. I should have noticed that your geography in Panama was military related.

With that in mind, I'm sad to sense your loss of belief in our "system".

I have visited several locations in Latin America over that past 4 years. It, not only illustrates how fat and sassy we are here in USA, but also how sadly corrupt, and unmercifully selfish people can be.

We have OUR problems here in this country to be sure, but we (IMHO) do more GOOD for the rest of the world, then the rest of the others combined.

THAT is my opinion, you won't change that.

Again, I respectfully appoligize for the flame.
