Wanna know what's wrong with NASCAR? They've gone from Junior Johnson to Jimmie Johnson.

Wanna know what's wrong with IndyCar? It's gone from dirt ovals to street races.

    Makes sense .

The Indy 500 / Memorial Day Weekend crowd has gone home. They won't be coming back for this race, at least not until Indy 500 / Memorial Day Weekend 2008.

They had a window of no rain on early Saturday afternoon. Anybody know why they did not try then? I know they had drivers heading to Anderson and Raceway Park, but seems to me they could have squeezed it in ?

Call me paranoid, but after seeing this, getting rained on Sunday, & hearing about Allison-Gate, I'm beginning to think I'm not supposed to be going to any races this year...

Look at it from a promoters point of view... You have a $40k purse + expenses to pay for. For that you need people in the seats.

Since it got rained out early, there wasn't many tickets sold yet. If you race Saturday, there is no good way to get the word out to get your fans back. Plus, it being the Memorial weekend in Indy, lots of people have their time scheduled out between races, parties, family get togethers etc...

Its just too risky for the promoter to open his doors back up the next day and hope they come. I'd rather see them cut their losses for this year in order to insure they aint broke going into next year.

Before this gets too out of hand................

Sargent and USAC met yesterday to try to get a new date. Tuesday was the first day they could also talk to anyone from the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

Keep in mind USAC had NO time to run the Hoosier 100 Saturday-the Little 500 was at Anderson, the Nite before the 500 at IRP. Pile on top competing with the Parade and the fact the track got a lot of moisture Friday night and Saturday was out.

Sargent also has a full schedule as well, promoting Macon, Paducah, all the fairground miles and a number of special events.

And the fairgrounds itself is booked with a number of events over the summer.

Sargent is not going to take a bath just to run the race, who could blame him. The Friday before the F-1 race was discussed but apparently could not be done.

Didn't I see them selling shirts that said "2007 Hoosier Hundred" on them? Wish I'd bought one now.

Has the Hoosier Hundred ever been cancelled before? I don't mean postponed, but actually cancelled and not rescheduled.

    Not in the 'modern' era...

We took a couple of down and backs from Milwaukee to see the SC cars run after rains in may..
Not sure what changed since 6-R isnt running the show but they tried for a saturday afternoon race...
Maybe they sold more advance tickets or something.
Was looking forward to coming back to Indy for it later this year, oh well, next year is right around the corner

The T-shirts said 55th running and had Josh Wise and the 2006 winning car on the front.

6R really has not run the race for the last few years-Tom Johnson had it in 05, Sargent in 06 and this year. I cannot think of one year that 6R tried to run on Saturday afternoon. None of their events were ever a wash.

The Hoosier 100 has always been postponed and rescheduled due to rain but never cancelled due to rain.

It was cancelled due to anger one year but that's another story.

    Thanks for the clarification.
IIRC,2000 and 2001 were the years it was postponed to sept during F1 weekend...
(we did down and backs from WI)
We were geeked in 2001 as we wanted to see SC then the Little 5 on saturday. ( that was AJ still promoting) They did try for saturday afternoon and it washed out too...I wont forget it any time soon as we did the infield thing and while eating dinner, I left the cap off my soda and upon replacing it, trapped a wasp inside...needless to say he was a bit pizzed so when I went to take my next drink, it stung my upper lip.
I had forgotten about 05, my fiance and I had a good talk with TJ while Al Sr. and Parnelli were driving the thunder roadsters on that sloppy track ( they had a blast!!)
