Since this is a road course, will they qualify if it's raining?
Today's forecast: Today: Overcast with showers at times. High 72F. Winds ENE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60%.

No, they won't. Sirius channel 128 said they won't race in the rain either even though Goodyear brought rain tires. Its a COT race too.
Then why waste money bringing rain tires??Originally Posted by 430

Nascar will never run in the rain, because they don't want there star's to be shown-up by the road racer's! Boris Said was right in his interview on espn that nascar could qualify, and that nascar is against it's under 35 in points! Sad part is many good drivers are going home and the do-nothing back-markers will be in the field!
Qualifying as been rained out, race will start by points. Allmendinger, Said, Simo, Ambrose, will not be in the race.
Did I hear that they will have Busch qualifying on Sat AM? Do they even have a full field? If not, why qualify? I'm reserving my comments about NASCAR,at this time.
Reason, how about starting position. Reason, how about pit stall choice.

With 35 guaranteed, what is qualifying? Rain, schmain bidness as usual.

Another thing. When NASCAR first went to the road courses, they were not very good at driving them. But, the last 5 or 6 years, they could probably do just as good as any sports car driver.
Poor Boris... basically this kicks No Fear Racing to the curb...
they're done, he said.
Boris is back in the field!
He will be driving the Wood Brothers #21 because Bill Elliott offered him the ride.
Nice gesture!!![]()
If I were Ed Carpenter and you were a lady...
If Robby Gordon is truly sorry, he should offer his ride to Marcos Ambrose. This is just a crazy thought I had after reading the previous post. But, his offer to Ambrose has changed my opinion of Robby. He is back in my good graces again.

I questoined whether the Busch Series had a full field for the Glen, and if not, why qualify? I see there are only 41 cars listed for the start. Did they have Busch qualifying? Why? Why didn't they use that time for Cup qualifying?
The Busch series has different drivers for the most part and they use different cars.
Whan they first flirted with rain racing, they had a brief wet practice at the Glen a few years ago. The results were, uh, not good.
What in the heck is THAT supposed to mean? Nascar is the only reason that anyone mainstream even gets to see these guys race. Sure, the "ringers" bring interest to the race, seem to finish fairly good, but at the end of the day it's always Gordon or Stewart, two non-roadcourse "specialists" that seem to take the checkered flag.Originally Posted by 430
Personally, I would love to see Scott Pruett win a race...but seriously, in these cars, on a road course, the creme de la creme does seem to rise to the top...unfortunately for you, 430, that doesn't seem to be Fellows or Said. The top Nascar guys are the top Nascar guys for a reason. Hope you enjoy seeing your guys do some pretty good racing in the big time, regardless of where they finish, because they really do add to the show. I always enjoy the race a bit more because of them.
Rain tires are just an illusion in NASCAR.
I don't remember the exact age of the rain tires that Goodyear totes to every road course, "just in case." Somebody said between six and eight years.
When it rained Friday in Montreal, I wondered if they might send the Busch guys out for practice. I got one of those "you've got to be kidding" stares.
One of the guys in the garage area said the sidewalls could be so cracked that those tires might not even hold air.
I think they should revisit the rain quals rules. Sometimes all they have to do is wait it out a bit. Perhaps taking the top 35 in points as SP's 1-35, then only the non-top 35 in points make qual attempts to fill 36-43. It would not take a long time, and would be fair for those small teams.
I don't know anybody who likes the top 35 rule except for the top 35.Originally Posted by Doctorindy
I don't particularly like it either, but if they're going to use that, why not expand upon their own rules....they change them every week anyway.Originally Posted by Bad Science
