    What has he done

What has this driver ever done in racing that he deserves all this

The driver unveiled his line of candy bars, "Dale Jr.'s Big Mo'," at a candy expo in Chicago on Tuesday. Earnhardt had already signed personal services contracts with Adidas and Sony. He became the fourth athlete to receive a clothing line from Adidas, joining soccer's David Beckham, football's Reggie Bush and basketball's Tracy McGrady.

Just think what Danica will receive after she wins a few races, and she is a whole lot better looking

there'd be NO United States of America.

    Once again...

Comparing Dale Jr. to Danica exposes one's complete and utter ignorance of the sport.

Well he's a two time Busch series champion and has 17 Nextel Cup victories in his career. That's the main difference right now. And I bet Dale Jr is pretty good looking to women race fans. On top of being born into the third generation of stock car drivers in his family.

What has Danica won again? She's never won in ICS and didn't win when she was in Atlantics as far as I can tell. She's a podium finisher at best so far.

...I believe you're looking too hard to find a NASCAR vs. IndyCar argument and missing the real point (or perhaps not).

Does Tony sell tickets, Tony has put a lot back into racing, he has not forgot where he came from or how he got where he is today, he has not demanded a part ownership in JGR

IMO I do not think Jr has earned what he is receiving, Next year will tell, either I will come back after 2008 and say I was right or I will say I was wrong about Jr,

Tony will out preform him in 2008, Tony will be in a car that no one on the JGR team knows anything about

I would put a dinner on this in Blythe, that would be half way for each of us

At least Beckham has accomplished something. His English National Team won the World Cup...oh wait... Not sure if any of the clubs he's played for have won championships.

Rosco, you're an ok guy and racefan and the father of a real racer
    I'm just stating the obvious.
The real world is not fair.
people like Jr and that's why he's popular
more or less skilled than others is extraneous to his popularity
those other variables you mention I totally agree with
I'll buy you a dinner in Blythe if TS does not outperform him
but Jr will remain the marketing king
If I had my way supermodifieds would rule the world
but the're not as popular as late models @ Blythe Fairgrounds

Back in the days of The Early IRL, when we thought it was gonna reconnect Indy with the Sat night shows, I bought Miles a steak dinner at the Banning Sizzler (cause it was halfway betwixt Indio and Fontana) and he ate two of them

Well I'm no fan of Junior's either, but he's also sold tickets and he contends enough to actually win races. And from what I've seen people love him everywhere too.

Yes, similar to Danica in everything except the most important category.

He's Dale's son. He is not the best driver in NASCAR by far, but he's the most popular. He's also the future of the sport.

Nonsense. Each are the most popular driver in their respective series. Maybe you should be more careful tossing around the term "ignorance"...

Let us know when Jr can take Turn one at 230mph
Faster than a bullet from a gun
    He is faster than everyone
Quicker than the blinking of an eye
Like a flash you could miss him going by
No one knows quite how he does it but it's true they say
He's the master of going faster. -George Harrison

    in how many years?

If his name with Smith, Jones or Gandhi he'd be looking over his shoulder every Silly season.

Yes, I guess you are correct. However, the fact remains, Dancia has no wins. But, she is popular. No question about that. She'll probably score her first win next year.

IIRC, other than Johnson, Stewart, Gordon and Kenseth nobody else has had as many wins as Jr. during the same time period. I think he'll do quite well next year driving for Hendrick.

What he said. Jr is actually statistically one of the top drivers in the series. Last name and all. This year he's been doing poorly, but much of that can be blamed on the feud with Theresa and the fact he's leaving DEI.

    Agreed.

Jr's record puts him in the top tier of NASCAR drivers and furthermore by all accounts he's a decent guy with the sort of personality that makes it hard not to want to see him do well.

    Of course, some here manage...

To ditto what others have said and flesh it out with #'s:

Since 2000, Dale Jr's rookie year, he is ranked:

tied for 4th in total wins
    4th in top 5's
    6th in top 10's
    3rd in laps led
    his win % is 6th
    his top 5% is 5th

If that doesn't make him a top 5 driver in Nascar, I don't know what does.

the only drivers that consistently rank ahead of him are Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon.

I like Jr but he hasn't been particularly good the last two years. Isn't all about the the driver though. On the other hand DEI had a pretty good restrictor plate package their for awhile.

I don't really recall watching that many, but Danica is the best woman driver I've ever watched. Still, I think comparing Jr to her is a stretch, to be polite.
